Differentiation of Instruction at Girard Jr/Sr High School
Our staff here at Girard strives toward creating a learning environment which is suitable to the student’s needs. A differentiated classroom offers a variety of learning options for all levels of learning. In our classes, our teachers use a variety of ways for students to learn the curriculum, a variety of methods to help our students understand information and ideas, and a variety of options for our students to demonstrate what they have learned. We are aware of the fact that our students learn in different ways; therefore, we differentiate our instructions techniques to match those needs.
We use strategies which are built around knowing our students and responding to their needs. Sometimes students work alone, sometimes in pairs, sometimes as a whole class and sometimes in small groups depending on the student’s needs. We are aware that we will only need to stop differentiating our instruction when students cease to be different. Our staff has the awareness it takes to be fair, but also to not always be the same. In order for our students to reach the same goals, they may need to take different paths to get there.
Differentiated instruction is a key component to reaching success with our students here at Girard Jr/Sr High School.
