Consequences:  

* first time = verbal warning

* removal from activity

* loss of recess/silent lunch = note will be sent home for parent(s) to sign

* visit Mrs. Raynor & note will be sent home for parent(s) to sign

 

 

 

Approved Snacks:

* Snacks may be sent in at any time.  We will munch on these while drinking our milk.  Please send enough snacks to accommodate 15 children.

*We do not celebrate birthdays with a party at school anymore.  The office will recognize each “birthday student” on the morning announcements and award a little prize.

* No tree nuts, peanuts (item can‘t be produced in an area where peanuts are either), red dye, or strawberries are allowed in the classroom.  Please check the label on each item before you buy it.

* No Little Debbie Snacks

Secure Skills:

The following is a list of Secure Exit Skills that your child will need to master before being promoted to Second Grade.  These skills are worked on daily in the classroom and need to be reviewed at home as well. 

 

   Math Secure Skills

1.  Read and write two digit numbers

2.  Perform rationale counting (for example, look at a set of objects and know how many objects are in the set)

3.  Identify place value in two digit numbers (for example, in the number 25, the 2 represents the number of tens and the 5 represents the number of ones)

4.  Use cents notation

5.  Show money amounts with coins

6. Recognize pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters 

7.  Understand the meaning of addition and subtraction

8.  Solve addition and subtraction number stories

9.  Add and subtract using the number grid

10.  Find patterns in addition and subtraction facts

11.  Use the symbols +  -  =

12.  Write addition and subtraction sentences

13.  Measure to the nearest inch

14. Tell time on the hour, half-hour, and quarter hour

 

 

 

 

   Secure Reading Skills

1.  Short vowel sounds (example=the /a/ sound as in hat)

2.  Base words and endings -s, -ed, and -ing (example=picks, picked, and picking)

3.  Diagraphs th, sh, wh, ch, tch (example=thin, she, when, chip, itch

4.  Beginning and ending blends (example = /fl/ as in flood)

5.  Long vowel with silent /e/ (example = bike)

6.  Sequence of events (example = what happens first, next, and last in a story?)

7.  Story Structure (example = characters, setting, problem, and solution)

8.  Cause and effect (example = what would happen to a pig if he rolls in the mud?  He will get dirty!)

9.  Realism/Fantasy (real-life or make-believe)

10.  Compare and contrast (example = big cats to pet cats)

11.  Main idea and details (example = what is the story about?)

12.  Making predictions (What do you think will happen next?)

13.  High Frequency Words (sight words)

14.  Fluency (40-60 words per minute)

 

 

  Secure Writing Skills

1.  Uses capital letters at the beginning of a sentence and with names.

2.  Uses end punctuation.

3.  Writes sentences that express a complete thought.

4.  Writes legible sentences with appropriate spacing.

5.  Writes a five sentence paragraph about one topic (in other words, all the sentences in the paragraph stay on the topic).

 

 

Report Cards

Report cards will be sent home at the end of every Quarter.  They will need to be signed and returned.  Here is a sample of the concepts that will be assessed on the report card.  Please talk to your child about the importance of each target area.
