Mr. Downs

Social Studies, Illinois History and American Government

My name is Mr. Downs and I teach Social Studies, American Government and Illinois History.  Social Studies is the study of political, physical, cultural and historical geography.  American Government focuses on the election process in our country and comparative economic and government systems.  Students also learn the Illinois Constitution and how the government is financed and how the Department of Defense operates.  Illinois History begins with Native Americans in our state and goes all the way through the 21st century. During the second semester in Illinois History, we will focus on Sports in Illinois, Women’s History, Labor History, History of Crime, and Local History.  I have been a teacher for 19 years in the district and I have enjoyed this time very much.  I also am the assistant boy’s basketball coach in the high school.
