Title I Reading

Let me introduce myself.  I am currently the Title I reading teacher for first and second grades.  I have been teaching for over twenty years, the last ten years at Girard Schools.  Previously, I have been a 4th grade teacher, a gifted and talented teacher for grades 1-8, and a Herman Reading teacher.  Over the years, I have found that I most enjoy teaching children how to read.  Working with young children as they take their first steps toward learning to read gives me a lot of personal satisfaction.

Students who are struggling with learning to read receive Title I Reading classes.  I provide small group instruction to our Title I students in two ways.  First, I work with Title I students in their own classroom during a thirty minute guided reading lesson.  Instruction is cooperatively planned with the child’s classroom teacher and the regular reading curriculum is used.  Second, I work with Title I students for a twenty to thirty minute pull-out lesson in my classroom.  This lesson focuses on extending and supporting instruction beyond the regular reading curriculum.
